Recently our good friends, Tom and Wade at Different Drop, did a social media post promoting the sale of the remnant cases of the 2022 Allouran on their website, and they jested that the wine was the “Petrus” of the southern hemisphere at one fiftieth of the price.  While I appreciate the praise and connection, the Allouran is not made in the style of a Petrus – it is made in the style of the neighboring Saint-Emilion with its varietal synergy between the Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines.  Our Reserve Merlot, 100% of the variety, is the wine in which I try to harbor connections to the spiritual home of Merlot, Pomerol in which Chateau Petrus presides.  Every time I have the barrels set aside for blending, I set my mind back to the barrel halls of Chateau Clinet, Chateau la Conseillante and even Chateau Petrus itself (on a very foggy late September morning in 2010).  This is the style and substance I seek, and this is what we have been building towards for over 25 years, and continue to try and emulate every single vintage.
 
With this in mind, I have been drinking some of my Reserve Merlots with beef stews, lamb tandoori as well as pork roasts to find some vintages in pitch perfect condition for a general release to you all dear comrades.  The wine industry may be in a state of flux currently, but this does not mean we have to put on a sack covered with ashes – let us celebrate what I believe to be one of (if not), the best wine varieties in the world by releasing a 6-pack of these glorious wines.  The wines to be included are as below:
